Divine Ikubor known as Rema is a Nigerian singer, rapper and songwriter who was born in Edo State in Nigeria into a Christian family.The singer who was born from a Christian home began singing and rapper during his days in secondary school.Rema became a household name in Nigeria after his song “Iron Man”, appeared on Barack Obama’s 2019 summer Playlist.In 2019, the ‘Dumebi’ hitmaker signed a record deal with Jonzing World, a sub-record label under Africa’s biggest record label, Mavins Records.Rema’s debut EP ‘Rema’ after its release became the most talked about EP in Nigerian and the world at large as it peaked on number 1 on Apple Music Nigeria.Rema is noted for his numerous hit singles after his emergence into the Nigerian Music industry from the songs like ”Dumebi”, ”Beamer”, “Iron Man”, ”Bad Commando” and a host of others.During the 13th edition of The Headies, Rema was named as the Next Rated musician and later won Best New Artiste at Soundcity MVP.Before Rema finally signed to MAVIN, he had been with the label for about 18 months prior to that. But before that 18-month spell, Rema was a teenager who lost his dad and older brother within a short time of each other and was under pressure to raise money for his mother.At the age of 17, he went to work on a beach in Ghana and bought his mom a car. Soon after, he made a freestyle to D’Prince’s ‘Gucci Gang’ and he came on MAVIN/Jonzing’s radar. Things have not been the same since.On losing his dad and brother, Rema says, “At some point, things got hard and I had to man up…. I had to work hard because I lost my brother and my dad… I had to work hard.” During the chat, Rema says hard work got him in shape and that he never goes to the gym. Rema also called his mother a, “great mom.”
