Peter Okoye, also known as Mr. P is no doubt Nigeria’s most popular musician who choreographs. Peter or Mr. P, is the twin brother of Paul Okoye, also known as Rudeboy. and a member of the defunct P-Square group; a sensational group comprising of the two twin brothers and were notably recognized for their incredible music videos, the burst of energies, melodious songs, and well-choreographed performances. Sadly, the duo fell apart after failing to resolve their irreconcilable differences.Sometimes referred to as the African Usher Raymond, Mr. P’s solo career has experienced steady growth and keeps defying odds despite the several backlashes from fans of the defunct group (P-Square) that claim Rudeboy seems to be doing better. In this post, we discuss the biography of Peter Okoye, also known as Mr. P.Although Peter is from Anambra State, he was born in Jos with his twin brother, Paul. The duo had their secondary school in Jos, at St. Murumba Secondary School and later went to the University of Abuja where they studied Business Administration.Peter joined his school music and drama club, alongside his brother where they began singing, dancing, and mimicking songs by MC Hammer, Bobby Brown and Michael Jackson.They would later co-form an Acappella quartet called “MMMPP” (M Clef a.k.a. Itemoh, Michael, Melvin, Peter, and Paul). Drawing inspiration from their music idol Michael Jackson, they began break dancing, formed the group called “Smooth Criminals” in 1997. They dropped M Clef from the group “MMMPP” which later was changed to “MMPP”. Their artistic talent and precise dance routine soon made them household names in the city of Jos, where they performed at school functions and other occasions.Later in 1999, Peter returned to music school to develop his skills on the keyboard, drums, bass and rhythm guitar, alongside his twin. Their work includes the soundtracks for a number of films like Tobi, Mama Sunday, Moment of Bitterness and Evas River.The same year, they both applied to the University of Abuja to study Business Administration. The Smooth Criminals disbanded when its members left for various other universities. Subsequently, Peter and Paul formed their own group, variously called “Double P”, “P&P”, and “Da Pees”, until they eventually settled on “P-Square”. They were managed by Bayo Odusami aka Howie T, a seasoned concert promoter and the CEO of Adrot Nigeria Limited.
