The Shocking Life Story Of Victor Osimhen
Victor James Osimhen is a Nigerian striker playing for Italian club, Napoli.
Following his record breaking move from Ligue 1 Lille to Napoli, he has leading the lines for the Naple based club, destroying defences week after week.
He currently has 8 goals and 1 assist for the Italian side in 9 games this season, earning a reputation as one of the best strikers in the league.
He was born 29th December 1998 in Lagos to Mr. and Mrs. Osimhen. He is originally from Sean South East Local Government in Edo state, even though he grew up in Lagos. According to Victor, he is the last of his parent’s 7 children, unfortunately for him, his mother died when he was a kid and he and his siblings had to hawk things like pure water on the streets of Lagos just to survive.
Following his elder bother’s footsteps, he started his career at Ultimate Strikers Academy, Lagos and in 2015, was called to the Golden Eaglets squad for the U17 world cup where he led the team to win the trophy, picking up both the golden boot and silver ball awards along the way.
His time at VFL Wolfsburg wasn’t rosy though as he spent two seasons at his new club wallowing in injuries, failing to score even a single goal for the club.
It was later decided that he would go on loan and during the summer, had trials with Zulte Waregem and Club Brugge bit failed to make it into any of the Belgian sides due to a malaria infection. But Charleroi having sold off their striker, Kaveh Razaei to Club Brugge brought in Osimhen on a season long loan as replacement and it was at Charleroi that the Nigerian striker showed the world his stuff. He scored his first goal for the Belgian side on 22nd September with a backheel against Waasland Beveren.
Victor Osimhen went on to score 20 goals in 36 games for Charleroi that season. His great performances at Charleroi made French club, Lille. He made his debut for the Ligue 1 side on 11th August 2019, scoring a brace against Nantes in a 2-1 win and also won the Ligue 1 player of the month award for September.
Victor also scored his first Champions League goal against Chelsea FC on 2nd October 2019 in a 2-1 loss to the English side. He went on to score 18 goals in all completions for Lille in his first season.
Well, on 31st July 2020, Napoli revealed the signing of Victor Osimhen for a combined fee of £80,000,000, making him the most expensive African player transfer ever, but unfortunately his father wasn’t there to celebrate with him as he passed away in May aged 80. Before his demise, he revealed in a interview that he had wanted his son to be a Lawyer but he later allowed him follow his passion and dreams.
After a great pre season, scored his first goal for the Italian side on 17th October 2020 in a 4-1 win over Atalanta. And even though he had a lot of injuries, still scored a total of 10 goals only behind Lorenzo Insigne in his club.
With the sacking of Genarro Gattuso, the new Napoli manager has helped turn Osimhen into a beast, beating defences with his sharp movements, strength and pace. He currently holds 8 goals and 1 assist in games for the Italian club this season.
Osimhen has not only been good at his clubs but also at the National team as he has scored 8 goals in 16 goals for the Super Eagles.
